Accelerating Academic Innovation With Timber
UO Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact | Eugene, OR
Overview
The Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact (KCASI) houses the University of Oregon's growing interdisciplinary research ventures. Featuring research labs, innovation spaces, and open-office mezzanines, KCASI was designed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration. The design of the 160,000 square-foot academic facility pulls inspiration from Oregon's rich history in forest products and innovation. Our team was hired to furnish and install a 19,000-square-foot hanging CLT mezzanine and 12 intricate, design-build timber stair systems, which contribute to the building's transparent and open-space design. Certified LEED Gold and the recipient of many design awards, the KCASI project is a brilliant example of how timber integration and biophilic design can positively impact our academic institutions.
*This project was delivered by Swinerton Mass Timber, prior to the establishment of Timberlab.
