Timber Canopy Revitalizes Memphis Riverfront
Tom Lee Park | Memphis, TN
Overview
Timberlab was hired as a supply partner for the civic canopy structure, a central space acting as the front porch to the Mississippi River in Memphis, Tennessee’s reimagined Tom Lee Park. The canopy is an open-air structure featuring six vertical supports composed of delicately arranged steel pipes from which spans a rigorous and structurally dramatic timber frame. Timberlab worked closely with the design team to provide constructability feedback for connection design and CNC fabrication. The Southern Yellow Pine glulam beams typically measure 10.5 x 48" in shape with combined lengths of up to 130' long. The beams are all fabricated in Timberlab's facility in Portland, OR and will be shipped to Memphis for construction beginning summer of 2022.
