Saddleback College is part of the South Orange County Community College District in Mission Viejo, California. The project (Saddleback@ATEP) is a new complex for the campus with two buildings that will house Saddleback College's Advanced Transportation Department and the Culinary Arts Department. Swinerton SoCal had been pursuing the opportunity and asked us to join their team in implementing a Mass Timber Roof feature on the new campus. It was a hard bid opportunity with a tight turnaround of Timberlab learning of the pursuit only 1 week before the bid due date.

This project is unique due to the very long double-curve Alaskan Yellow Cedar (AYC) beams with a metal deck on top. It has a very modern aesthetic and is very different from our "typical" projects. The manufacturing of the beams required a special template to achieve the double curve, and all of the wood had to be field drilled due to the steel connections, meaning that it never hit a fab shop before heading out to the project site.
