Linley Park | Anderson, South Carolina
Overview
Timberlab is partnered with general contractor Edifice LLC and GMC Architects to build a new picnic pavilion and restroom structures for Linley Park in Anderson, South Carolina. The project was brought to Timberlab’s attention via an inquiry through Building Connected and is the first project we have won in South Carolina. This project is part of the City of Anderson’s Linley Park Improvements Plan, funded by federal grants and hospitality tax revenue. The plan will also fund the building of a new playground, increase parking, improve traffic safety, and restore a natural stream bed to prevent flooding.
Since these are exterior structures, they are primarily built with Western Red Cedar from Cedar Source in the Pacific Northwest, chosen for its natural weather resistance. The cedar is being used for the picnic pavilion framing, restroom framing, and screening walls for the restrooms. The exposed roofs for both the pavilion and restrooms are tongue and groove cypress sourced from Bayou Forest Products in Louisiana. The project is 1,200 square feet, quite small relative to the scale of Timberlab’s usual work. This prompted the team to build with solid-sawn lumber rather than glulam beams and columns.
